SASANIAN KINGS. Kavadh I, second reign, 499-531. Drachm (Silver, 26 mm, 4.10 g, 3 h), LYW (Rēw-Ardaxšēr), RY 37 = 525. Draped bust of Kavadh I to right, wearing mural crown with frontal crescent and korymbos set on crescent; star to left and right; before head, legend, ‘kwʾt ʾp̄zwn’, i.e. ‘Kawād abzōn’ (‘Kavadh, increase’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Fire altar, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, LYW (abbreviation for the name of the mint in Pahlavi). Göbl type II/1. SNS III/2, type Ic/1b. Areas of weakness and with minor scratches and some deposits, otherwise, very fine.
